John Niland

Branch Manager / Senior Associate / Geotechnical Engineer

John completed a BE (Civil) at Newcastle University in 1997 and commenced employment as a geotechnical engineer with Douglas Partners in Sydney (West Ryde) in 1998, then transferred to the Newcastle Branch in 1999 and then transferred to the Coffs Harbour Branch in 2016 and now has over 19 years' geotechnical engineering experience.

During his time at Douglas Partners John has furthered his career by gaining extensive experience in numerous aspects of geotechnical works including site investigation (CPT, drilling, test pitting), excavations (soil and rock), foundations, pavements and earthworks. John currently is the senior geotechnical engineer in our Coffs Harbour Douglas CMG office.

During his time in Sydney John worked on projects such as Olympic venues, low to high rise buildings and the Eastern Distributor. Whilst in Newcastle John worked on subdivisions, mine subsidence projects, numerous mine sites, tailings dams, rail projects and the Kooragang Coal Terminal expansion projects (investigation, inspections and instrumentation). John also travelled to Townsville, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Melbourne to perform Menard Pressuremeter testing. Regional work from the Coffs Harbour branch has involved investigation and inspections from Lismore to Kempsey to Inverell and has included communication towers, bridge replacements, pavement upgrades and hospital upgrades.

John participated in the Young Professionals Exchange Program (YPEP 2002) to Japan which involved working with a Japanese company OYO which was based in Tokyo and experiencing home life in Japan.
