Matthew Blackert

Principal / Environmental Engineer

Matthew is a Senior Environmental Engineer and Principal within the Newcastle Environmental Group and has over 17 years' of experience in environmental and geotechnical engineering.

Matthew has been involved in numerous contaminated land assessments for a wide range of land uses and facilities. He has managed, conducted or reviewed numerous investigations, remediation and validation projects for industrial, commercial, residential, recreational and rural sites including service stations, former gas works, railway facilities, metal fabrication facilities, smelters, shopping centres, residential subdivisions, airports, defence facilities, high rise developments, wetlands, waste water treatment facilities, electrical substations and poultry/swine facilities.

Matthew has also managed/conducted numerous groundwater investigations, long term groundwater monitoring projects, acid sulphate soil investigations, acid generation potential/combustibility investigations/management, waste classification/resource recovery assessments, effluent disposal assessments, hazardous materials assessments, urban capability assessments and salinity assessments.

Some of the large recent projects Matthew has been involved with include the BHPB Kooragang Island Emplacement Cell & Hunter River Remediation Project, PWCS Proposed Coal Terminal (T4), Aurizon Hexham Long Term Train Support Facility and the GPT Newcastle CBD Redevelopment.
