Dean Woods

Principal / Environmental Engineer

Dean is a chartered environmental engineer (CPEng) and Certified Environmental Practitioner - Site Contamination Specialist (CEnvP-SC). He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering, Environmental (Hons) in 1999 and joined Douglas Partners in 2000.

He progressed from being a junior environmental engineer to manager of Environmental Services, Melbourne in 2004. He was appointed an Associate in 2005, Senior Associate in 2011 and then Principal in 2021. Dean's areas of interest include hydrogeology and all aspects of contaminated land investigation, remediation and management. Hydrogeological experience includes both groundwater resource evaluation as well as all aspects of contaminated groundwater investigation including, sampling and interpretation of groundwater conditions.

Dean manages numerous desktop investigations, contaminated site assessments, remediation plans and remedial programmes. Dean has prepared soil contamination management plans for sites with residual contaminated soil with reference to the principles of sustainable remediation. He has experience in conducting complex waste soil contamination investigations for major projects as well as individual basement excavation works across Victoria. Dean is familiar with the latest soil and groundwater investigation techniques, field instrumentation and human health risk assessment applications and routinely conducts investigations subject to an Environmental Audit. Dean has also acted as an Auditor's assistant conducting site visits, providing expert support in the area of hydrogeology, preparing correspondence and Audit reports. Dean has presented the outcomes of various projects at international conferences in Melbourne, Adelaide and Greece. He has also acted as an expert witness regarding the valuation of contaminated land in a Federal Court case.
