Experienced Hydrogeologist

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Hydrogeologist with a keen interest for science, mathematics and data analysis. This key role supports our Geotechnical team, with time shared between the office and site.

Duties and responsibilities are:

  • Carry out general desk-top studies, analysis and fieldwork for various hydrogeological investigations. Fieldwork includes drilling supervision, hydraulic testing of aquifers such as test pumping, field permeability testing and packer testing, as well as groundwater level and quality monitoring.
  • Work with other Hydrogeologists on groundwater investigations such as:
  • Impact assessments for mining (coal mines, metalliferous mines, coal seam gas projects, etc.);
  • Dewatering assessments for mines;
  • Groundwater exploration and resource development for town, remote community and mines water supplies;
  • Dewatering assessments for civil infrastructure and basement excavations;
  • Borefield performance reviews and augmentation;
  • Groundwater management plans for basement construction and borefields; and
  • Groundwater contamination and risk assessments.
  • Develop existing analytical skills with borehole data, climatic data, groundwater level and quality data, test pumping data, and numerical modelling;
  • Assist with existing numerical modelling capabilities;
  • Preparation of draft proposals and reports for hydrogeological investigations; Apply working knowledge on geology and flexibility to contribute to geotechnical projects in non-groundwater areas.

About You

To be considered for this role, the successful applicant will:

  • Professional qualifications in Hydrogeology or equivalent;
  • Experience with current NSW regulations on groundwater dewatering and basement construction/design for civil projects
  • Demonstrated experience in using computer software for modelling of basement dewatering
    (e.g. Modflow, SEEP/W);
  • Technical report writing skills;
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills; and
  • Drive and commitment towards managing projects.

The position requires a team player with a high level of initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm, and the ability to communicate well with clients.
