Geotechnical Section Manager

Douglas Partners Wollongong is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and dynamic person to lead, support and develop our existing geotechnical team. There will be a strong focus on building robust working relationships with new and existing clients whilst continuing to embed our core values including safety, flexibility and dependability into our culture.

About the Role

We are currently expanding both our capabilities and market share and therefore need a high calibre Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to effectively manage and direct all aspects of the department from the development and growth of the team to the delivery of projects on time and within budget.

Since its inception, our Wollongong Branch has been involved with a diverse range of work that is undertaken within the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, NSW South Coast and Southern Highlands.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practically minded engineer or geologist who enjoys a mixture of technical project work as well as personal interactions as part of team management.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills to assist the Wollongong team to understand our clients’ requirements and work with them to deliver positive outcomes within a timely manner.

The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising the overall processes and operations of the Wollongong Geotechnical Section, ensuring that it runs efficiently while following current company procedures.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, your main responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • enhance and foster development and opportunities driven by our values and behaviours;
  • ensuring that the Company's QA/WHS/environmental management system is understood by the geotechnical section and standard Company procedures are being used correctly;
  • working with other Section Managers, the Branch Manager and Regional Manager to achieve company objectives;
  • development and growth of the section and business;
  • actively review current processes and industry best practice to identify opportunities to update technical methods and maximize efficiencies;
  • perform quality control procedures that enhance the current processes and identify and manage any inconsistencies.
  • coordination and allocation of resources to meet project and section requirements/timeframes;
  • people management with the support of HR;
  • overall monitoring of the financial performance of projects and the section; and
  • prepare annual budget and quarterly reports.
Experience
  • relevant qualifications and prior experience in managing large geotechnical investigations;
  • experience in geotechnical engineering/engineering geology;
  • excellent communication skills and attention to detail;
  • proven experience in business development and commercial acumen advantageous but not essential;
  • ability to lead / manage a diverse team;
  • proven problem-solving skills;
  • knowledge of WHS compliance and risk management requirements and a high commitment to safety;
  • ability to apply occupational health and safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures to field work; and
  • high level of computer skills.
